 Hi everyone,

Our apologies for the long delay between blog updates--we've been busy here at school! December is always an exciting time of year with plenty going on. Please read on for this week's announcements: 

  • We are taking our mid-year MAP tests over the next two weeks. The current plan is to test Reading on the mornings of Tuesday 12/5 and Wednesday 12/6. The following week we will test Math on Tuesday and Wednesday. 
    • Please let us know if your child will be absent on any of these days. 
    • No need to do anything special to prepare your child for these tests, just be sure that they're getting enough sleep and eating a healthy breakfast. 
    • Many kids get stressed and anxious about tests like this. Our message before standardized testing is always to just do your best and show what you know. It's a useful snapshot for teachers to differentiate instruction, but it's only one piece of the puzzle. I like this letter that a teacher wrote--it's a good attitude to have about these tests!
  • This month we're doing several dress-up days. See this calendar for what's happening each day. Don't forget your festive and funny socks tomorrow!

Trail Map 8/24

 Hi Everyone, We had a great first week of school! We spent a lot of time this week getting to know your kids and learning about how we do things here at Central Woodlands. We're geared up for an amazing year of learning as Trailblazers! Read on for this week's announcements. Next week we will begin running our regular schedule and start the first unit of every subject. Here is our weekly schedule . This is subject to change (and likely will change!) as we figure out what works and what does not work.  Next week we will start sending home a daily planner, likely beginning on Tuesday or Wednesday. We're asking students to get parent signatures every night for the first quarter. If we feel it is no longer needed, we'll stop requiring signatures after that (you are, of course, welcome to continue this expectation with your own child). 5th Grade Update

 It's Halloween week! 👻Today we reminded students to carry their costumes in their bags to school tomorrow if they'd like to wear one. We will change into them later in the afternoon, and they will need to be independent with their changing. Please no elaborate or gory make up or play weapons. We have some fun activities planned and a treat at the end of the day!🎃 Thank you to everyone for coming to conferences last week and for partnering in your students' learning. We also appreciate our camp chaperones--it was a great time at Camp Roger! See this  Google Drive folder  for pictures we've taken or received so far.
