1/28

 Hi everyone,

Are we sick of snow days? I admit, there were a couple I could have done without. It's been tough getting back to a consistent routine since returning from winter break, but it looks like we're in the clear for the immediate future (and returning to a rainy and brown "winter" 😕). Here's your update for the week.

  • We've kicked off Book Bowl! All 5th grade classes are participating in a competition to see who can read the most books, culminating in a trivia competition on March 27th (the day before spring break). Here's a handout with more information, including the book list on the second page. We need everyone to read, read, read! Please ensure that your child is reading every day at home--the new year is a great time to reestablish these good habits!
    • All books are available in the school library but students may only check out one at a time. If your child is a fast reader, consider checking out more at the public library.
    • If students are missing a book or lost their ID card (which is needed to check out books), this would be a good time to figure out a solution to either problem.
  • We'll finish our math unit this week and will take the test next week. Early finishers during math class have been working on their Bakery Project. Ask your child to show you what they've accomplished so far--they're working hard and using math, research, and critical thinking skills in unique ways!
  • FYI, these updates will be only for the students in my class for the rest of the year. If Mrs. Gillies needs to communicate anything, I'll include it in the blog post or she will reach out directly.
Have a great Sunday! Go Lions!
Wes
