 Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a wonderful winter break! We're looking forward to seeing all of the all of the rested and refreshed kids. Read on for this week's announcements. 

  • We're starting new units in all subjects. Here's what we'll be studying in my (Mr. Beemer's) class:
    • In reading we're focusing on nonfiction text. We'll especially work on finding main ideas and comparing/contrasting texts. Be sure that your child is reading for at least 20 minutes every night. This reading does not need to be nonfiction necessarily, but I'm hoping to nudge kids into finding a topic that they want to read about in their free time.
    • Unit 4 math focus on decimals with an introduction to coordinate planes. The homelink packets will be given out at the beginning of the week. Please check with your child to make sure that they are keeping up with these--many kids had a lot to catch up on when these were due for unit 3. In addition, we're starting a project that will challenge kids to create a bakery (including all of the math that goes into starting a small business). This will be similar to the number project from earlier this year in that they have several weeks to complete it. 
    • In science we're starting our biology unit, focused on food webs and animal adaptations. This is my favorite area to cover in science and I'm excited to explore it with the kids. 
  • Report cards and MAP results will be sent home on Friday. We hope that there aren't any big surprises on these but please reach out if you'd like more details on anything. 
  • No school on Monday 1/15 for MLK Day and teacher professional development.

Trail Map 8/24

 Hi Everyone, We had a great first week of school! We spent a lot of time this week getting to know your kids and learning about how we do things here at Central Woodlands. We're geared up for an amazing year of learning as Trailblazers! Read on for this week's announcements. Next week we will begin running our regular schedule and start the first unit of every subject. Here is our weekly schedule . This is subject to change (and likely will change!) as we figure out what works and what does not work.  Next week we will start sending home a daily planner, likely beginning on Tuesday or Wednesday. We're asking students to get parent signatures every night for the first quarter. If we feel it is no longer needed, we'll stop requiring signatures after that (you are, of course, welcome to continue this expectation with your own child). 5th Grade Update

 It's Halloween week! 👻Today we reminded students to carry their costumes in their bags to school tomorrow if they'd like to wear one. We will change into them later in the afternoon, and they will need to be independent with their changing. Please no elaborate or gory make up or play weapons. We have some fun activities planned and a treat at the end of the day!🎃 Thank you to everyone for coming to conferences last week and for partnering in your students' learning.
