 Hi everyone,

I hope you all have had a good week! Please read on for this week's announcements. 

  • Thank you to all parents and the PTO for the amazing Teacher Appreciation Week! We felt very appreciated and spoiled--THANK YOU!
  • About half of the class is all done with MSTEP--we'll finish up next week and then we are DONE with standardized testing for the year!
  • Several teachers watched parts of the documentary Childhood 2.0 during our professional development time on Friday. It's focused on the effects of social media and smartphones on children. I highly recommend this (free on youtube!) for all parents! 
    • Note that this documentary covers challenging topics such as suicide, bullying, and pornography. Most of it is not for kids, though you may find some clips helpful for your children--just view it ahead of time!
  • On Thursday morning we will host a group of 4th graders from Thornapple. I'm looking forward to seeing our Trailblazers act as tour guides and leaders for these younger students!
  • Keep an eye out for the northern lights tonight!

The Regional Math and Science Center at GVSU is offering educational camps!

Advanced Manufacturing Camp

Offered July 29 - August 2 by the RMSC, this hands-on immersive experience for students entering 6th and 7th grades. Campers participate in large group activities that included team-building and design thinking processes - followed by breakout sessions facilitated by GVSU staff, students, and industry professionals from the West Michigan area. Sessions included hands-on activities such as Computer-Aided-Design (CAD), 3-D Printing, Automation, Design Thinking, and Lean Manufacturing, and includes field trips to local manufacturing companies.

Trail Map 8/24

 Hi Everyone, We had a great first week of school! We spent a lot of time this week getting to know your kids and learning about how we do things here at Central Woodlands. We're geared up for an amazing year of learning as Trailblazers! Read on for this week's announcements. Next week we will begin running our regular schedule and start the first unit of every subject. Here is our weekly schedule . This is subject to change (and likely will change!) as we figure out what works and what does not work.  Next week we will start sending home a daily planner, likely beginning on Tuesday or Wednesday. We're asking students to get parent signatures every night for the first quarter. If we feel it is no longer needed, we'll stop requiring signatures after that (you are, of course, welcome to continue this expectation with your own child). We'll go over this thoroughly with the kids next week. Please let us know if you have any questions.  We'll start the fall MAP test ...

5th Grade Update

 It's Halloween week! 👻Today we reminded students to carry their costumes in their bags to school tomorrow if they'd like to wear one. We will change into them later in the afternoon, and they will need to be independent with their changing. Please no elaborate or gory make up or play weapons. We have some fun activities planned and a treat at the end of the day!🎃 Thank you to everyone for coming to conferences last week and for partnering in your students' learning. We also appreciate our camp chaperones--it was a great time at Camp Roger! See this  Google Drive folder  for pictures we've taken or received so far.
